Stepan Sobanov

Stepan Sobanov studied composition and music theory between 2015 – 2017 and has been studying media composition since 2017, both at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
He was born in Novosibirsk in 1993 and raised in Vienna, where he lives ever since. Stepan had the privilege of writing new music for the big band “Nouvelle Cuisine”, the Taiwanese “C-Camerata Taipei” ensemble, the principal violist of the Vienna Philharmonic, Christian Frohn, as well as other ensembles and solo artists.
In 2018 Stepan Sobanov won the Univision Song Contest with his song “Those Memories”, sung by Marcharie. He was also a finalist at the Vienna Film Music Award 2020 with his scoring of the “Caviar” film sequence by Elena Tikhonova. Stepan produced music for the video game Tilt Pack, additional music for the TV series “Tatort Borowski”, and the singers Polly Roel and Marcharie. Stepan was able to deepen his musical knowledge thanks to the composition master class at the Academy for Contemporary Music Lucerne and various workshops, including with Georg Friedrich Haas and Alexandre Desplat. The practical know-how was further improved in the form of internships at Igudesman&Joo and MG Sound Studios.
