About
We teach composition
as a way of listening.
A complete education for the contemporary composer
We believe that becoming a composer is not a matter of taking a collection of individual classes. It is a long-term process that requires the development of different skills, knowledge and ways of thinking — and, above all, the ability to bring them together.
For this reason, our Academy is built around a structured, comprehensive and continuous educational program.
Instead of offering isolated lessons that students can simply book and attend independently, we offer carefully designed study packages in which the different disciplines of musical education are connected to one another. Composition, harmony, counterpoint, form, analysis, ear training, piano, instrumentation, orchestration, music history and aesthetics are brought together within a coherent curriculum. Depending on the level and interests of the student, the program can also include areas such as music technology, notation and production software, film music and other contemporary practices.
Why a complete program?
A composer does not work with isolated skills.
Understanding harmony influences the way we hear form.
Understanding form changes the way we compose.
Analysis develops our awareness of musical language.
Instrumentation and orchestration transform musical ideas into sound.
Historical and aesthetic knowledge places our work in a broader context.
Technology gives today’s composer new tools for creating, notating and producing music.
We therefore believe that these areas should not be treated as unrelated subjects. They should form a connected educational system.
This is why the package is at the heart of our Academy.
Our goal is not to offer as many courses as possible. Our goal is to offer the essential knowledge and skills that a composer needs, without unnecessary subjects and without leaving fundamental areas aside.
A personal path within a structured system
Every student enters the Academy at a different level.
Before beginning the program, students undergo a placement assessment. Based on their existing knowledge, experience and practical abilities, they are assigned to an appropriate level.
From there, each student follows a structured curriculum designed for that level.
The program consists of several courses studied simultaneously throughout the academic year. Students therefore become part of a continuous learning process rather than attending unrelated individual classes.
As students progress, they are assessed and can advance to the next level. The structure allows students with different backgrounds and levels of experience to enter the Academy without forcing everyone into the same starting point.
Learning, assessment and progress
We take assessment seriously.
Students receive grades and academic records for their completed courses. Examinations and assessments are used not simply to produce a number, but to determine whether the student has genuinely achieved the required level of knowledge and ability.
If a student does not meet the required standard, they have the opportunity to retake the examination. Repeated failure to meet the requirements may result in the student being required to repeat the relevant course or level.
In this way, progression through the Academy is based on achievement rather than simply attendance.
A long-term education
Our programs are designed as multi-year educational paths.
Depending on their previous experience and goals, students may follow a two-, three- or four-year course of study.
The purpose is not to make the program longer for its own sake. The purpose is to give students enough time to develop the technical, analytical, creative and intellectual skills required for independent work as composers.
At the completion of the program, students receive an Academy Certificate together with an academic record documenting the courses completed and the results achieved.
The Academy’s certificate is currently an institutional certificate rather than a university degree. As the Academy develops, we aim to establish further academic and institutional partnerships and explore possibilities for broader recognition of our programs.
Our vision
We want to create a place where composers can develop beyond the limitations of a single teacher or a single discipline.
A place where technical training and artistic development exist together.
A place where students learn not only how to write music, but also how to listen, analyse, think, question, discuss, use contemporary tools and ultimately develop their own musical voice.
Our aim is to build a serious, demanding and internationally oriented environment for the education of the next generation of composers.
